1  LSMAC Club Forums / LSZOO Reef Project / Great Lakes Aquarium (GLA) - Zoo Donation Inventory on: June 10, 2018, 01:16:12 pm
Darin Reinke and the Great Lakes Aquarium truly overwhelmed us last week with a MASSIVE donation of CORAL for the Zoo's Reef Tank.  They filled 2 5-gallon buckets and a huge black tub to the brims with surplus coral that was just sitting in the "back of the house", taking over holding tanks, fragments from breaking while maintaining the tanks of all things.

As time permits I'll try to figure out a better inventory of what was provided, but from memory there were three types of chalice corals, including three ultra massive colonies, tons of Claustrea / Candy Cane Coral, which is fragged and will likely be sold off to fund raise, a few big hunks of an orange Monti Digi; some other type of lumpy branching Monti, a few Pocilliopora frags...just tons.

I'd estimate the retail value of the contribution to be easily in excess of $2000.

While not necessarily a donation directly to the Zoo Reef / LSZOO, Ben made a $13 cash donation to the club at tonight's meeting...and since basically all the club money is getting invested with the zoo's reef, effectively, I'm sure that's where the money will wind up going sooner or later. THANKS BEN!

Update, due to some items not arriving, the Club's contribution to the zoo came in at $98 instead of $142.

And tonight, Ben made a $13 cash donation to the club as well.

New Club Balance = $123.00

New Club Balance - $66

for 6/7/18, the Club is making a $142 donation, which helped secure a donation from Biota of corals. Our donation includes:

4 Sapphire Damselfish, Pomacentrus pavo Palau, F1, captive-bred, Biota Palau
Radiated Filefish, Acreichthys radiata Palau, captive-bred, Biota Palau, 1m/1f pair
2 Tridacna squamosa  Palau, aquacultured, 4-5 CM
Zoo % of Bioto Shipping Charges ($67.90) (approx. $0.17 per $1 in the shipment).

While I won't publicly post the breakdown (it would reveal wholesale values which are generally considered confidential), the expense to LSMAC is $142.  That's money well spent, looking at what we're getting to add to the zoo reef!

11  LSMAC Club Forums / LSZOO Reef Project / James Gregory Donation Inventory on: April 18, 2018, 02:09:55 am
At the April 2018 meeting, James Gregory (former Zookeeper) had donated THREE new circulation pumps akin to the existing pump we have as a return pump. The idea I think is to get all the main pumps to be the same. I don't have the model numbers on hand, but the other member had looked them up and valued this donation at over $750!!! THANK YOU James for the incredibly generous donation.
12  LSMAC Club Forums / LSZOO Reef Project / Re: Jeanne Warner's Donation Inventory on: April 18, 2018, 02:08:35 am
I have to note that in early 2018, Jeanne made a $500 donation to the zoo via Facebook; my understanding is that went into the general capital improvement fund, although I'm not sure that's what she intended! So I'm noting her continued generosity here.
13  LSMAC Club Forums / LSZOO Reef Project / Matt Haglund Donation Inventory on: April 18, 2018, 02:07:22 am
At the April 2018 meeting, I delivered a donation which our member Matt Haglund (from downstate MN) had sent up to me via BRS; the donation was a TDS meter for the RO/DI system. This is about a $40 donation to the zoo (once you include shipping) - https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/dual-inline-tds-meter-dm-1-hm-digital.html?gclid=CjwKCAjw2dvWBRBvEiwADllhn0pbGxS_uZOJg3tiK19lENgdtZIX2yZAcGkJ1UYBaSYXd60EKie9zxoC-1AQAvD_BwE

THANKS Matt. The Keeper's loved it!
14  LSMAC Club Forums / LSZOO Reef Project / Re: Mike Doty - Zoo Donation Inventory on: April 18, 2018, 02:05:32 am
At the April 2018 meeting, Mike donated his Odyssey 48" Fixture along with brand new replacement 250 watt HQI bulbs. I can't really put a value on this specifically, but it's in the couple hundred dollar range in my book; thanks Mike!
